DID THEY?
by
Paul Brown
They left on the first Sunday of spring from Portsmouth in their silver saloon Their excursion would take three hours and they hoped to be there by noon They left without their luggage They knew what they left behind When the wind whistled in their ears Did they have worries on their minds Did they pay the milkman did they iron all their socks when they woke up that morning did they put forward all their clocks Did they leave the gas on did they pay the leccy bill did they leave a tap running and did the water overspill did they turn the lights off did they lock the front door did they even consider to drive home, just to explore did they enjoy the countryside did they enjoy their drive were they glad that it was all over the moment they arrived did they love the fresh air did they love Beachy Head friends and family miss them now that they are dead
STORY:
This is a sad story about how two men committed suicide due to their battles with mental illness.
The two men lived in Portsmouth and travelled to Eatbourne, where they took their lives. This poem is about having made the decision to take your life, what do you talk about during the journey in the car.
