LET YOU GO By Paul Brown If you really like me, let me know. If you really need me, tell me so. Make me wanted, make me needed. Don’t let me feel superseded. Otherwise I’ll have to let you go. If you really love me, tell me so. If you care about me, let it show. Adore me, but don’t abhor me. Ignore me and you will bore me. Otherwise I’ll have to let you go. If you think I’m worthy, will I know? Hope I’m not a silly so-and-so. Make the effort, make the time. So I don’t get left behind. Otherwise I’ll have to let you go. If you think I’m funny, will you glow? Am I the fire to your snow? Amuse me, but don’t abuse me. Use me, and you will lose me. Otherwise I’ll have to let you go. If you can be trusted, I hope so. Honesty means more than you will know. If you lie, then I will cry. So don’t try, or I will die. Otherwise I’ll have to let you go. You said you cared about me, but I’m low When did our friendship cease to grow? We were friends for many years, but I’m drowning in my tears. That is why I had to let you go.

STORY:

This is a poem I wrote in 2009 about a friendship I had that broke down a year previous. This poem is very personal to me and highlights what I required within the friendship to keep it going. Sadly, as my friend became too embroiled in her own personal life, our relationship completely disintegrated.

There was a time I would spend a lot of time writing poems, but looking back, there are only two I really liked, with this one being my favourite.

The accompanying photograph is of a pedastal, which I suppose was what I put her on.
